Nature Readiness Assessment

Align decision-making with Earth’s intelligence to create ecological and social value

Most organisations don’t have a values problem. They have a visibility problem.

Across organisations in multiple sectors, we consistently find strong values, governance and systems thinking already in place. What is missing is the knowledge and insight needed to connect those strengths to nature-related risk, opportunity and decision-making.

The Nature Readiness Review helps leadership teams understand where they stand today and what matters most to address next.

Why Nature Readiness Matters

Many organisations already possess strong governance, clear values and effective decision-making processes.

What is often missing is visibility.

Leaders may not yet understand:

  • Where their organisation depends on nature
  • Which nature-related risks could affect future performance
  • How emerging regulation, investor and supply-chain expectations may affect strategy and operations
  • Where opportunities for innovation, resilience and competitive advantage exist
  • Whether current governance and decision-making processes are sufficient for a changing operating environment

Without that visibility, organisations risk making decisions based on an incomplete picture — and, in some cases, being well-reported but poorly prepared when regulation arrives.

The Nature Readiness Review provides the insight needed to strengthen decision-making before external pressures make change unavoidable.

What the Assessment Measures

The Nature Readiness Review evaluates organisational capability across five dimensions:

Understanding Risk and Dependencies — How well does your organisation understand nature-related impacts, dependencies, obligations and strategic risk?

Leadership and Culture — To what extent are nature-related considerations reflected in leadership behaviour, organisational culture and day-to-day decision-making?

Purpose and Operational Alignment — How closely do organisational actions align with stated values, commitments and strategic objectives?

Innovation and Opportunity — How effectively does the organisation identify and act on opportunities arising from changing environmental, regulatory and market conditions?

Systems and Adaptive Capacity — How effectively does the organisation learn, adapt and respond to complexity, uncertainty and change?

Together these dimensions provide a practical picture of organisational readiness and capability.

How It Works

Four stages that build readiness, alignment and capability in sequence.

Stage 1: Stage 1: Initial Assessment and Leadership Debrief

Complete a structured assessment across all five dimensions. Your results are explored in a facilitated debrief that identifies your current readiness profile, key leverage points and the most significant areas of uncertainty.

You receive:

  • A scored readiness profile
  • Identification of strengths and capability gaps
  • Areas of uncertainty requiring further investigation
  • Initial recommendations for action

This provides a clear basis for discussion with your leadership team.

Stage 2: Leadership Team Assessment

The assessment expands across the leadership team, identifying areas of alignment and disagreement, shared strengths, knowledge gaps and development priorities.

The result is a more accurate and complete picture of organisational readiness and leadership capability — and the foundation for any subsequent development work.

Stage 3: Organisation-Wide Assessment and Readiness Roadmap

The assessment extends across the wider organisation to capture a whole-system perspective.

You receive:

  • Organisation-wide findings
  • Priority development areas
  • A practical readiness roadmap
  • Recommendations for strengthening capability, governance and decision-making

Stage 4: Capability Development

Development support is tailored to your organisation’s specific needs and readiness profile — integrating advisory support, facilitation, leadership development and coaching to strengthen organisational capability over time.

This is where existing operational strengths connect to nature-related risk and opportunity — and where readiness becomes embedded rather than reported

From Translation to Transformation

Many frameworks begin by assuming organisations need new values, new commitments or large-scale transformation.

The Nature Readiness Review starts somewhere different: with what you already have.

Research consistently shows that operational integrity, purpose-driven governance and functional systems thinking are often already present in organisations that consider themselves unprepared for nature-related challenges.

The development need is rarely transformation from scratch. It is translation — helping leadership teams understand what their existing strengths mean in the context of a changing operating environment, and building the specific knowledge and practice needed to act on that understanding.

An example: the supply chain resilience work many organisations are already doing is nature-dependency work — it just hasn’t been named that yet. The Review helps leadership teams see the nature-related risk and opportunity already embedded in the work they’re doing, and decide what to do with it.

Resilience, adaptation and interdependence are proven operating principles. Earth has field-tested them for 4.5 billion years. The Nature Readiness Review helps organisations explore what those patterns might reveal about their own decision-making, governance and long-term capability.

What You Receive

A clear picture of your current position — Understand where your organisation is strong, where uncertainty exists and where capability gaps remain.

Evidence for strategic decision-making — Practical data your leadership team can use to inform investment, planning and governance decisions — and to demonstrate readiness to funders, partners and governance bodies.

A prioritised roadmap — Focus attention on the areas most likely to improve organisational readiness and resilience.

A foundation for better long-term decisions — Develop the visibility and capability needed to respond confidently to a changing operating environment — and to lead rather than follow as conditions continue to shift.

Who is this for?

Leadership teams and senior decision-makers in organisations where one or more of the following is true:

  • Nature-related regulation, supply chain requirements or funder expectations are arriving and your current position is unclear
  • You have strong values and operational systems but lack visibility of where nature-related knowledge gaps exist
  • You need credible, evidence-based insight to inform strategic decisions — not aspirational frameworks
  • You want to understand your position before committing to a development programme
  • You are looking for new sources of resilience, innovation and competitive advantage

Relevant across sectors, organisation sizes and starting points.

Methodology

The Nature Readiness Review draws on more than a decade of research, practice and methodology development. It integrates systems thinking, biomimicry, natural capital, circular economy, nature connectedness and sustainable development to help organisations identify strengths, gaps and opportunities in their readiness for nature-related change.

Begin the Conversation

If your organisation is beginning to ask how nature-related change could affect future decision-making, the Nature Readiness Review provides a practical place to start.
